The Church of St Nicholas and St Teilo in Penally has a remarkable unbroken history from the Celtic Age when the early Celtic Saints led by Teilo were the rock on which the Christian faith in the region was founded. This changed under Norman domination when a new Church was built in Penally and dedicated to St Nicholas. Down through the ages further changes were to take place: the Reformation, the conflict of the Civil War, the imposition of many forms of taxation, the devastation caused by plagues and illness and the horror of two World Wars.
It has always been the belief of the inhabitants of the village that the church has been linked to St Teilo. In 1977 the Church in Wales agreed to a joint dedication of St Nicholas and St Teilo.
The Church continues to be a source of strength for all those living in the community.
